Do I Even Need Mixing? Isn't Mastering Of My Music Enough?
You’ve invested significant time and effort into writing and recording great songs as a musician. Mixing is a crucial step in creating a hit song. If you opt for mastering only, ensure your recordings are perfectly mixed beforehand without compromise.
Mastering cannot replace audio mixing. It cannot “save” a poorly mixed song. Mastering balances out a printed stereo file of a perfectly mixed song; it doesn’t “create” the mix. Even a perfectly mastered but poorly mixed track will still sound unpleasing.
Most clients rely on our complete mixing and mastering service to achieve the perfect tone for their audio material.

Should I Leave My Processing Off My Tracks / Stems?
In general, you can bypass your processing. However, leave it active if the processing you applied is crucial to the sound design and integral to the sound you created.
If the processing is intended solely for mixing purposes, feel free to bypass it. You can also request specific processing and effects for your tracks. Rest assured, you can rely on our expertise.
Can I Skip Mastering Of My Mix (Incl. & Free in Our Mixing Products)?
When you book any of our mixing products, mastering is always included for free.
If you prefer not to have your material mastered (e.g., for an external mastering service), check the corresponding field on the checkout page. In that case, your mix will not be mastered.
Do I Need To Book Mastering On Top Of Mixing?
You do not need to book additional mastering for your song. When you book any of our mixing products, mastering is always included for free.
What Is a Rough Mix? Should I Send One?
A “rough mix” is the initial essential recording mix that the artist creates before the professional mixing stage. It reflects how you envision your track, with essential volume, pan settings, and some slight processing.
A rough mix gives the mixing engineer a basic idea of the desired sound. It can be imperfect but is a valuable tool for the engineer, especially since the client is not attending the session. This helps the engineer understand your intended balance and stereo placement.
While uploading a rough mix with your audio files is common practice, you are not obliged.
What Is A Reference Track? Should I Send One?
A reference track is a finished audio mix or song that serves as a “sonic guideline” for the audio engineer to process your song.
It provides the mixing engineer with a clear idea of how you want your song to sound. Unlike rough mixes, reference tracks are already well-produced, balanced, mixed, and mastered songs. They translate well on any device and define the direction of the desired audio processing.
We will meticulously listen to a reference track and analyze its tone, dynamics, composition, and structure if you upload a reference track. With this information, we will process your song to match it tonally with your reference track.

My Mix Is Limited - Can You Still Master It?
A limited mix is not ideal for mastering, but we can still work with it.
Mastering a limited mix requires an exact technique to ensure the track is not overcompressed. While the approach is similar to mixing an unlimited mix, extra care is taken to preserve the dynamics and quality of your track.
Do You Offer Stem Mastering?
Mixing Monster does not offer stem mastering (mastering individual stem tracks). We provide stereo mastering of a single stereo file.
During the mixing process, we create stems of all sections of your mix. These stems are then individually processed to prepare your mix for strategic mastering. While this step is similar to stem mastering, it is not considered stem mastering per se.
If you need your mixed stems individually (e.g., for external stem mastering), order the mixing add-on “Mixed Stems Export.”

When & How Do I Need to Upload My Audio Files?
After placing your order, you will receive an email with a link to upload all your audio files directly.
Fill out the necessary details for your project in the upload form. Our upload zone, which is part of the form, allows you to upload your audio files safely and securely. You can drag and drop or browse your audio files and wait until all files are uploaded.
Alternatively, you can paste a direct download link to your files (e.g., Dropbox, WeTransfer). Finally, submit the upload form, and you are good to go.
Do I Need to Upload Directly After Ordering?
After placing your order, you will receive an email with a link to upload all your audio files, but you can wait to upload them. If you plan to delay your file upload, please let us know your intended upload schedule.
This is particularly useful if you book multiple sessions while recording your material. We recommend uploading your material as soon as possible and avoiding fragmented sessions. We will respect your deadlines in any case.
Once we begin processing your material, replacing or adding files will incur a fee.
Audio Files: Quantity, Size & Length - Any Restrictions?
You can upload as many audio files as your ordered product allows.
Rough mixes and reference tracks do not count towards this limit. In general, you can upload up to 256 files at once. Each audio file can be up to 256 MB in size. We do not restrict the length (playtime) of audio files.
Can I Upload / Download DAW Project Files?
Mixing Monster does not accept any DAW (digital audio workstation) project files.
We also do not offer the option to download DAW project files of our finished mixes or masters. We work exclusively with audio files.
Can I Send a Download Link to My File Archive?
After placing your order, you will receive an email with a link to upload all your audio files directly.
Fill out the necessary details for your project in the upload form. Our upload zone, which is part of the form, allows you to upload your audio files safely and securely. You can drag and drop or browse your audio files and wait until all files have been uploaded.

I Only Have MP3 Files - Are They OK to Work With?
If MP3 is the highest quality mix you have, we can work with MP3 files.
However, we prefer to work with high-quality .WAV files, as MP3 files are not optimal for professional audio processing.
That said, we can still achieve great results with MP3 files.
Please remember that MP3 files are highly compressed and lack crucial frequency content, especially in the high-end area.
Converting an MP3 file to a .WAV file does not improve sound quality; it merely changes the format.
What If I Have Accidentally Sent Wrong Files?
If you have uploaded the wrong files, contact us via email, and we will replace them.
Please get in touch with us as soon as possible to ensure we have the correct files before work commences. Additional charges will apply if work has already started on your mix and new stems are required.

What Is A Stem Or Stem Audio File?
The term “stems” originated from the broadcast industry and represents a group of instruments mixed to create a stereo submix.
For example, you can take all of your drum microphone recordings and mix them down into a stereo submix file, which will then be your “drum stem.” Stems break your mix down into several stereo files. You get your full stereo mix when you bounce down all those stems.
While mixing your songs, we create stems of all sections of your mix. These stems are then individually processed to prepare your mix for strategic mastering.
If you need our mixed stems individually (e.g., for external stem mastering), you can order the mixing add-on “Mixed Stems Export.”
Which Files Will I Be Getting?
In general, you will receive three mastered files per song:
- .WAV 24-bit 44.1 kHz
- .WAV 16-bit 44.1 kHz (CD)
- .mp3 320 kBit/s (high-quality MP3)
The first .WAV file is optimized and mastered for any online streaming service, while the second .WAV file is optimized and mastered for a CD release. Additionally, we provide you with a high-quality .mp3 file.
If you book any of our mixing products and do not want us to master your material, you can check the corresponding field in the upload form. If you need any other file formats, feel free to contact us. You can download your files directly from your specific customer page.
Turnaround & Revisions
FAQ About Turnaround & Revision TermsTurnaround Time - When Will I Get My Finished Mix/Master?
We aim to return your mix/master within five working days.
The standard turnaround time for each product is displayed on its product page. Mixing can take longer, depending on the need for edits.
If you require your track by a specific date, please let us know at checkout or when uploading your files, and we will ensure your tracks are mastered before your deadline.
You can also order a faster turnaround time (express service), which is available as a mixing or mastering add-on. Please note that the turnaround time will increase correspondingly if you book multiple products (or a single product multiple times).
What Versions Of The Mix Will Be Printed?
The engineer will always print a full mix.
Alternate mixes, such as instrumentals, acapella, or radio edits, can be ordered separately as mixing add-ons.
Do You Offer Alternate Mix Versions?
The engineer will always print a full mix.
If you need an alternate version of your mix, please check out our mixing add-ons or contact us. We are confident in offering solutions for any scenario.
Alternate mixes, such as instrumentals, acapella, or radio edits, can be ordered along with your main mixing product as mixing add-ons.
Can You Send Me Your Mixed Stems?
While mixing your songs, we create stems of all sections of your mix. These stems are then individually processed to prepare your mix for strategic mastering.
We can bounce mixed stems while printing the finished mix. When imported back into your DAW, these mixed stems will play back exactly as the finished mix.
If you need our mixed stems individually (e.g., for external stem mastering), you can order the mixing add-on “Mixed Stems Export.”
What Are The Terms Concerning Revisions?
We do not limit the number of revisions you can have per song.
Typically, we are at most 1 or 2 revisions.
If any tracks need to be edited or you have a specific sound you want the engineer to achieve, please explain this to the mixing engineer in as much detail as possible. Include stem names and time stamps for clarity.

How Long Does A Revision Take?
Each revision of your material may take up to five working days.
Generally, we will address your request as soon as possible, prioritizing your revision before taking on any new orders. We will also respect your deadlines.
We usually finish revisions within 1-2 working days, depending on the requested changes.
